Weight loss is a journey, and a challenge, but it doesn't come without great rewards. Many times I think of my weight loss as climbing a sand dune. You really have to dig your feet in deep because with every step it's incredibly easy to backslide. Sometimes you need to take a rest or you will never make it to the top. Some people will pass you and others may fall behind. You have to take it one step at a time and go at your own pace. When you get to the top you feel accomplished! Also bring lots of water and stay hydrated! That's what weight loss is like to me.
My year of loss has gone great! Sometimes I wanted to give up, but I never did. Instead I took small breaks deciding "I make the rules, so I can break them!" also "since this is a life change and not a diet I need to go with the flow and break out of the mold from time to time." I think I was right because after a year of working my butt off I had lost 83 pds! I didn't deprive myself of late night taco bell runs, and I didn't workout to the point that I felt i would die. I just watched my intake, worked out when i could, and stayed as motivated as was possible.
Sometimes we can't see the loss, and that makes it difficult. I decided from the beginning that the scale was not my friend! I would work so hard and then step on the scale...no loss WTF! Then I'd have a lazy day and step on the scale 5 pds gone! What in the world!?! So I asked a personal trainer and she informed me that sometimes when you're doing too much the body needs rest and you won't see any results if you don't give the body what it needs. I think that was one of the best things I could learn, because hello who doesn't like a lazy Sunday every once in a while? I did decide to keep measurements and once a month I took them in conjunction with full body photos. It was especially motivating to put old monthly photos side by side with the new ones and look at the results.
Did you actually believe I would stop there!?! i am not even close to done! i have learned a lot, become more energetic, and I smile a lot more. This summer I'm going to be outside as often as possible. I like to be active now and I'm actually looking for reasons to attend zumba or hike a strenuous trail. I've changed. I can't tell you how long it's been since I've had to do that old 1,2,3, hoist yourself out of the chair moment, or how long I've had to workout before I get winded, because now those things aren't nearly as alarming. I'm not finished yet! So, sorry I haven't kept things as updated as I'd have liked to but I'm still at it! Talk to you soon! :)
